Goalie Confidence
Defense communication starts with the Goalie.
In my opinion, goalies have the most important role on the field when it comes to defense. The communication starts with us. And as a goalie, if you are able to give your defenders the confidence to play the lockdown defense, you know they can play, you will allow yourself to see the shots you know you can save.
Trust is Essential
To sell the goalie position to your team, there has to be a reciprocated level of trust between the defenders and the goalie. If you have trust in your defenders and prove to them that you can make the low angle saves and saves on outside shots, they will gain the confidence they need to force their attacker to those worse shots.
Where's the Love?
In my opinion, goalies are starting to get more attention in the media, but they are still overlooked. It is a fact that goalies cannot win a lacrosse game -- we aren't even allowed to shoot.
However, with that being said, a goalie CAN keep their team IN the game.
Leading your defense to make a great stop, or making a spectacular save. This gives possession back to your offense, which means...more goals...more wins.
