I'm different!

Do you ever want to yell...I'M DIFFERENT!

The statement has so much power behind it, while it's so simple. Of course each of us is unique, but in a world where it's more efficient to group people into their sameness, that statement can easily get lost.

I am often asked, and ask myself...

  • Do kids need personal sport training?
  • Is it too much?
  • What is the best age to start?
  • What if my kid misses out and starts too late?

As parents, you strive to make sure that your child is doing what is best for them, while of course, comparing yourself across the board to every Jack and Jill that has their kid in the activity hamster wheel.

Triad Athletes lacrosse and speed coaches will ask each athlete, "What's your WHY" and this is a huge factor into choosing whether or not personal or small group training is best for you.  If your why is "everyone else is doing it," then it's probably not for you.  But if your why is:

  • "I want to improve my footwork"
  • "I want to get faster"
  • "I need to work on my shooting"
  • "I want to make this travel team and need to improve my fundamentals"

...then you likely fall into the category of needing that extra focus.

I like to think of personal training as focus work.  Like any skill, you need time to focus.  When it comes to field sports, you will have time to work as a team and work on your skills within that setting, but it's definitely not enough.  Every elite athlete will tell you that they did more than the rest.  Sometimes this is free - you have a lacrosse stick, a ball and a wall - or a soccer ball and a field.  And even more if you focus on those skills with specialized coaching, those "free" times are productive and technically accurate.

When looking for a program that is the best fit, you want coaches that work on different muscles, both mentally and physically.

That means, you want to increase confidence building AND speed training.  You want to eliminate wasted movement AND negative self-talk.  Combining the MIND, SPIRIT and BODY is essential in a program that knows you are different.

So what is the point of all of this...I wanted to give our perspective, as busy moms and coaches, because I think it's an important question to ask your family and your athlete.  I have kids that are very different, so I understand and have a unique approach to athletic training for my kids which is a mixture of team and small group training.

If you're looking to push yourself to the next level, Triad Athletes is your answer.
